Manchester United are reportedly hopeful that agreements which will enable them to move on with their plans to build a new stadium with 100,000 seats can be reached.
The Red Devils plan to leave their existing Old Trafford base while staying on a famous site whilst a magnificent new stadium is being constructed. Before that dream comes true, there are several obstacles to overcome.
The Premier League giants announced in March 2025 that plans had been created for what co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe hopes will become “Wembley of the North.”
According to reports, the ambitious project, which is estimated to cost £2 billion ($2.7 billion), could be finished by 2030.

That might sound a bit optimistic given all of the red tape that must be cleared before any progress can be made, but United are moving in the right direction.
Acquiring additional land surrounding the original “Theatre of Dreams” will be a crucial part of the plan. Although the Red Devils have a lot of that, but it is not enough to approve their proposal.
Freightliner owns the train yard that encircles Old Trafford, and it must be purchased to make room for a magnificent stadium, the design of which has already been somewhat altered.
According to Goal, the local government has given United hope that they will receive assistance with the purchases they must make.
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has acknowledged in the past that if United and Freightliner’s talks come to a standstill, mandatory purchase powers may be used. Freightliner reportedly value their facility at $350 million ($470 million).
