Manchester United icon, Wayne Rooney is reportedly being considered for a new managerial position.
After winning just four of his first 23 Championship games, the former United captain left Plymouth Argyle in December. Following a run of five defeats in six games, Rooney left the team sagging at the bottom of the second division of English football.
Rooney’s second high-profile setback followed a similarly dismal spell at Birmingham City. According to recent speculations, the former England international may soon return to management after serving as a television pundit.
According to Manchester Evening News, Macclesfield want Rooney to replace Robbie Savage as head coach.

The report claims that Rooney is among the options being considered. But it might be difficult to convince the Reds icon.
Savage, who is rumored to have suggested Rooney, is leaving the team he co-founded to join Forest Green Rovers, an announcement is soon to be made. Since reviving the team from the ashes of Macclesfield Town, the club have amassed an avid following. This would draw in a lot of interest and new supporters.
Despite having trouble in his last two jobs, Rooney reaffirmed in January that he wanted to get back on the touchline.
“I would like to go back in [to management],” he said on the Stick to Football podcast, to the surprise of former United team-mate Gary Neville. “But it would have to be the right club. Certainly the right club.”
