Man City’s ‘Young Superstars’ Picked To Be Mascots In ‘Bittersweet’ Treat

When James and Joseph Webb were born, they had no choice but to support Manchester City. Their father, John, and mother, Krystina, met over 20 years ago because they both loved the Blues, and even after getting together at university and marrying after more than a decade, their love for City remained consistent.

It was an exciting time for the family around the end of 2021 when John obtained tickets to accompany their eldest son James to his first game. Unfortunately, John was diagnosed with cancer and had to give up the tickets when he began chemotherapy. Even more devastating, the family learned in October 2022 that the disease was fatal, and he died barely two months later, between Christmas and New Year.

John never got to accompany James or Joe to a City game, and Krystina and the boys have had to deal with the loss of a husband and father who they wish was still alive. It has been a nightmare to live with from the day it happened, and every Christmas thereafter has been especially difficult.

“We thought everything was going well until October 22, when we were told it was terminal, but we were hoping for a couple of years,” Krystina told the Manchester Evening News. “The saddest part was that we barely had another two months with him at that point.

“It’s a bad time of year, and John never got to take James to a match since we were waiting for him to recover. It’s quite challenging. The boys are little stars. They have their times, just like any other kid.
