Man City Sign Cherki For £34m

Manchester City have signed attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki from Lyon for £34 million.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract until the summer of 2030.

Cherki had 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 games across all competitions for Lyon last season.

Cherki had an impressive start for France off the bench last Thursday, scoring a magnificent goal in their 5-4 Nations League semi-final defeat to Spain.

Cherki has arrived in time to join City’s Club World Cup squad, who will face Morocco’s Wydad AC in Philadelphia on June 18.

Cherki joins City as the club’s third summer acquisition, following the additions of Wolves’ left-back Rayan Ait Nouri and Chelsea’s goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, all of whom are available for the Club World Cup.

He stated on X “This is a dream for me. To be honest, joining a club like Manchester City and having the opportunity to advance my career here is quite wonderful.

“I’ve worked so hard for this throughout my life. I adore this sport, and I can’t wait to continue my development here in Manchester with Pep and his coaching staff.

“Everyone knows how good City is; they have been extremely successful for many years. I want to embrace the responsibility of helping the team continue to win.

“I would only leave Lyon for a project I truly believe in, and everything at City says I can improve my game and help the team succeed in the future. I’m excited to show City fans what I can achieve.”

Hugo Viana, City’s director of football, added: “We’re delighted to have Rayan at City. We want to add top talent to the club, and he meets that criteria.
