Liverpool Star Fitness Latest Following Confrontation With Arsenal Player

Alexis Mac Allister has reportedly given Liverpool a lift in fitness following his appearance in Argentina’s World Cup qualifying match in Ecuador.

For the first time since the Reds’ victory over Leicester City on April 20, Mac Allister played an entire 90 minutes of football during his nation’s 1-0 loss early on Wednesday morning.

Lionel Scaloni, the manager of Argentina, had acknowledged prior to the match that the midfield player was “not at 100%” after benching him during last week’s 3-0 victory over Venezuela at home.

However according to Liverpool Echo, Mac Allister has now made great progress in his efforts to get back into game shape before Liverpool’s Premier League trip to Burnley on Sunday.

After an incident with Argentina’s Franco Mastantuono, he confronted Ecuador’s Piero Hincapie, who was on loan at Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen, in a flashpoint towards the end of a match in which both teams had a player sent off.

In South America, Brazil lost in Bolivia despite Alisson Becker’s man-of-the-match performance, as he was beaten by a penalty at towards the end of halftime.

Although both teams had already secured their spots in the finals for next summer, it dropped the Selecao to fifth position in the final rankings of the South American qualifying group, 10 points behind leaders Argentina.

In Europe, Ibrahima Konate started and Hugo Ekitike came on as a late replacement for France in their 2-1 victory over Iceland in Group D, while Milos Kerkez and Dominik Szoboszlai played for Hungary in their 3-2 defeat at home against Portugal in Group F.

Following a goalless draw in Burkina Faso in African qualifying Group A, Mohamed Salah helped in bringing Egypt within two points of World Cup qualification with two games remaining.
