Luka Modric scored days after turning 40 to join an exclusive group and help AC Milan defeat Bologna 1-0 in Serie A on Sunday. Modric, who turned 40 on Tuesday, is the sixth player to score in the Italian league after reaching that age, following Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fabio Quagliarella.
“I hope no one reminds me of my age next time,” Modric remarked, laughing. Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was sent off late in the game, his third league match back in charge, for dissent after a penalty granted to the Rossoneri was overturned on video review.
Allegri violently threw off his jacket and sarcastically shouted “Bravo” at the officials as he was escorted away, reminiscent of incidents from his Juventus days.
“At that moment, I had some things to say to the fourth official, but the jacket saved me,” Allegri added, heaping praise on Modric.

“Luka is a wonderful player, and it’s a pleasure to watch him, but he’s also a really humble person, which demonstrates what a great champion he is. He can predict where the ball would go a minute in advance, and he has incredible technique.”
Pervis Estupinan hit the post for Milan in the first half, but Allegri’s side battled to break down Bologna until the 61st minute.
Modric initiated the play midway within his own half, finding Ruben Loftus-Cheek who went forward and distributed the ball for Alexis Saelemaekers. The Belgian international cut inside and rolled it across for Modric, who drove into the back of the net from just inside the area.
Samuele Ricci, who had just come off the bench, saw his shot go against the post, and Milan struck the crossbar for the third time in the game through Santiago Giménez.
