Liverpool Told To Sign 171-Goal Premier League Striker As An Alternative to Alexander Isak

Liverpool are hoping to acquire a new striker during the summer transfer window.

This summer, the Premier League champions want to invest in their squad under manager Arne Slot’s supervision.

The Dutch manager has gained the trust of the Liverpool administration by spending little money during his stint at the club while still delivering success.

They are ready to support the manager in the transfer market this summer, with a striker being the club’s top priority.

Liverpool may find it difficult to afford Isak

The Premier League champions have been linked with a bid for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, although securing him could be tricky given Newcastle’s hefty asking price.

Robbie Fowler, a club veteran, has now pushed the Reds to sign an attacker with 171 goals in 466 career appearances.

In an interview with The i, Fowler urged his old club to make a bid for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.

The difficulty is that clubs are aware that they may be looking for a number nine, so costs will skyrocket,” Fowler explained.

“If you look at Isak, he will certainly be worth £100 million or more. He’s a fantastic player, but Liverpool may not want to pay that price, so they’ll seek elsewhere.”

“You could look at Ollie Watkins,” Fowler says.

“He doesn’t really fit the model in terms of what Liverpool want, given his age, but I’d go and get him for a couple of years because he’s a tremendous player and established and experienced in the Premier League.”

Watkins can be the number nine Slot needs

Watkins, 29, has scored 16 goals and assisted 13 times for Unai Emery’s side this season.

His playing time has been impacted by Marcus Rashford’s joining at the club this year.

The striker could be persuaded to transfer to Anfield to replace Darwin Nunez.

Joining a club like Liverpool would allow him to compete for silverware, and the opportunity to be part of the Slot project at Anfield would be too fantastic to pass up.

He will cost them far less than their top target, Isak, and he has Premier League experience, something the Reds require.
