Liverpool To Miss Meeting With ‘Obvious Choice’ For Summer Transfer Due To 11 Possible Absences

Tottenham Hotspur could be without up to 11 players for Sunday’s visit to Liverpool, including the man called “the obvious choice” for a summer move to the Reds.

Spurs will come at Anfield having lost their past six matches in all competitions and facing the prospect of being the Premier League’s most visible relegated team.

Interim manager Igor Tudor has lost all four of his games in charge, and on Tuesday he was chastised for replacing goalie Antonin Kinsky only 17 minutes into a 5-2 defeat against Atletico Madrid, despite being responsible for two of the first three goals.

Micky van de Ven slipped for Atletico’s second goal, which was scored by Antoine Griezmann, and the Dutch defender will miss this weekend’s game at Anfield since he is serving a one-game ban for his red card in Spurs’ last Premier League match, a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace.

Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood believes Van de Ven should be considered by Liverpool for a summer move, with the Reds expected to be looking for a centre-back with Ibrahima Konate’s contract expiring this summer and Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez having only one year left on their contracts at the end of the season.

“Micky van de Ven is the clear choice for Liverpool’s left center-back position this summer,” Sherwood stated on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast by BOYLE Sports and Footy Accumulators.

“He has all of the qualities to be a top player, but he needs someone like Virgil van Dijk next to him.” I believe that having proven, experienced players at his side would make him feel more at ease and develop his leadership qualities…
