Liverpool Star’s Refusal In Frankfurt Was Embarrassing – But He Isn’t The Only One

Hugo Ekitike refused to celebrate his first-half equaliser with Eintracht Frankfurt. He needs to wiggle his head.

He raised his hands in apology, as if he were preaching to the converted. An apology. For scoring. Against a team for which the Frenchman spent one full season and made 33 league appearances. This is hardly the basis for a lifelong romance between him and the German club.

Especially when Liverpool came calling in the summer and Ekitike dropped Frankfurt like a hot stone. His reply then simply said, ‘Thanks for helping me get my career back on track, fellas, but I’m heading to Merseyside.’ Reported By Mirror.

Nobody is criticizing the forward for moving to Liverpool. You cannot say no to that. But do me a favor. Don’t return to where you came from and promise unwavering love and commitment to a club you abandoned.

It is more translucent than a window. Of course, this is nothing new; we have seen it before.

Alan Smith used to kiss the badge of Leeds United, his hometown team. When they were demoted, he opted to move to the team that Leeds fans despise the most: Manchester United.

Mo Salah, Robin Van Persie and Jesse Lingard find themselves among a long list of culprits to have also done what Ekitike did.

Lingard, laughably, refused to celebrate a winner against West Ham in 2021. He’d never actually been a bona-fide West Ham player – one actually owned by the Hammers – of course, having only been on loan at the London Stadium.
