Liverpool were officially the Premier League’s highest spenders during the most recent summer transfer window. Arne Slot accrued a £446 million charge, including add-ons, when ten new players joined the team over a three-month period.
The most recent addition was Alexander Isak, who joined from Newcastle United on deadline day for a British record £125 million, following the additions of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Jeremie Frimpong, among others. The one snag in their brilliant plan was the late cancellation of a trade for Marc Guehi.
In the dying hours of the transfer window, Crystal Palace called off the central defender’s projected £35 million move to Liverpool, allowing the problem to be handled later.

The Reds’ first opportunity to sign Guehi will come during the January transfer window.

Of course, the head coach has been able to outfit his squad with a goalkeeping overhaul, new starting full-backs, a new young central defender, an attacking midfielder, and two forwards, so he may not anticipate such significant changes being required so soon in the future.
However, Slot can only react to the scenario in front of him.
