Liverpool Receive Transfer Boost As Nunez Agree To Shock Move

Liverpool forward, Darwin Nunez is set to leave the club as he has reportedly agreed on a move to Atletico Madrid.

Nearly three years after joining Merseyside for £85 million from Portuguese giants Benfica, the Uruguayan striker has fallen short of high expectations.

Despite having only seven goals this season, he scored 33 goals in his first two campaigns. Under new manager Arne Slot, Nunez has just made 17 appearances this season, but it seems like he already has plans to leave Merseyside.

According to Cadena SER as reported by The Mirror, the 25-year-old has already had discussions with Atletico Madrid and has “made it clear” that he wants to pursue a move to La Liga.

It also implied that, from the striker’s point of view, everything has been agreed upon, and a deal with Liverpool is still pending.

Nunez still has a little more than three years left on his Anfield contract. Not only Atletico are interested in the forward, Napoli also are closely monitoring him.

Nunez’s limited playing time this season was reportedly due to an obligation in the contract that would have required Liverpool to pay Benfica an additional add-on.

The Uruguayan will be hoping to get another appearance this weekend when Liverpool play Crystal Palace to round off the season. Following that match, they will also lift the Premier League trophy.
