Liverpool ‘Preparing’ Huge Bid To Sign Nico Williams

According to Spanish source Fichajes, Liverpool are ‘preparing’ to make a large offer to sign Athletic Club attacker Nico Williams.

Last summer, the Reds decided to improve their centre-forward position by signing Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. Despite Luis Diaz’s departure, he was not replaced with a comparable choice.

Arne Slot presently has Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Rio Ngumoha, and Mohamed Salah available to deploy on the flanks. However, Gakpo’s performances have been uneven, while Salah has yet to recreate his success from the previous season.

Furthermore, Chiesa has struggled to get into Slot’s starting lineup, whereas Ngumoha is still very young and not ready to play regularly at the highest level.

So, it appears the Merseyside club are seeking to strengthen the flanks next year, and they have been widely connected with a transfer for AFC Bournemouth ace. Antoine Semenyo.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool has also recognized Williams as a serious alternative and is ‘preparing’ to trigger his £83 million release clause in order to attract him away from the San Mamés Stadium.

The Spaniard has signed a contract extension with Athletic Club until 2035, expecting to compete for major titles for his hometown club. However, the Lions have had a rough season thus far, languishing in mid-table in La Liga.

Williams to Liverpool

So, the forward intends to leave to pursue the next stage in his career. Although Ernesto Valverde’s team does not want to lose their talisman, they will struggle to keep him if he decides to force a departure.

William is a natural left-winger, but he is equally at ease on the other side. He has five goals in his first ten La Liga outings this season.

He has earned a starting spot in Luis De La Fuente’s Spanish national team after putting on an exceptional performance in club football in recent years.

Williams is an extremely talented player with the ability to reach the top. He is still only 23 years old and is far from a finished product; hence, if Liverpool buys him, he could be a wise investment for the long run.

However, it would be interesting to see if the Merseyside club can capture his services in January or next summer to strengthen the frontline.
