Liverpool Offer Massive Contract To Konate As Barcelona Join Race

Liverpool are reportedly optimistic that they can convince Ibrahima Konate to sign a new contract at Anfield and have already made him their biggest wage offer to date although three European superpowers are considering a potential free transfer.

Since joining the Reds in the summer of 2021 for £36 million (€42.5 million, $49 million) from RB Leipzig, the 26-year-old defender has made 169 appearances and won four major trophies.

Konate’s Current Contract Set To Expire This Summer

However, Konate’s current contract is about to expire in a few months, even though the club and his representatives have been negotiating an extension since the fall of 2024.

As of now, Konate is free to leave Anfield on July 1st as a free agent, and he already has permission to discuss a possible summer transfer with overseas teams.

But according to insiders, who told TEAMtalk that Liverpool believe the offer they’ve put up is the most lucrative in terms of base pay to date.

Although the club are now more certain that Konate would stay, there is still fierce competition for the 26-time France international defender.

The freedom that comes with signing a player on a free transfer allows rival clubs to offer more alluring packages, including significant signing-on fees and performance-related bonuses, even though Liverpool’s pay offer is said to be the biggest.

Real Madrid are said to be still very much in the running and have already made Konate’s representatives an offer in principle.

Barcelona have reportedly joined Inter Milan in offering potential agreements in an effort to entice the centre-half away from Merseyside.
