Liverpool have reportedly made contact regarding the potential transfer of Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz.
The Germany international is one of the game’s most promising players, having been a regular in the Leverkusen first squad since he was a teenager.
Wirtz, now 22 years old and reaching his peak years, had an outstanding 22 goals and 16 assists in all competitions for club and country this season.
According to David Ornstein of the Athletic, Liverpool has been in contact with the player’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer.
Ornstein believes Liverpool have made an initial approach to see whether Wirtz is keen on a move, but it remains to be seen if he’ll realistically be open to joining a Premier League team, or if his preference could be to stay in Germany.
Florian Wirtz would be a fantastic acquisition for Liverpool, but he will get other offers.
Wirtz may be a great signing for Liverpool, and his profile is just what Arne Slot needs to push the team to the next level.
