Robbie Fowler acknowledges that he was never “getting carried away” with Liverpool’s victories over Real Madrid and Aston Villa, implying that they are still going through a tough time following their defeat at Manchester City.
The Reds lost four straight Premier League games and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup as a result of a stunning run of outcomes.
However, feelings had been raised by victories over Villa and Los Blancos at Anfield a few days later.
Although there were suggestions of Liverpool improving, Fowler wasn’t persuaded and thinks they were only strong in the first half of their victory over Villa.

Pep Guardiola’s team defeated them 3-0, handing them their seventh defeat in ten games during their visit to the Etihad.
For extended periods, City were ruthless and made Liverpool appear less capable. With Arne Slot’s side eight points off the top after their loss, City and Arsenal have made some progress at the top, and Fowler has ruled the Reds out of the running for the title.
Fowler Rules Liverpool Out Of The Premier League Title Race
He told Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt on The Good, The Bad & The Football: “I got asked before the game, ‘Are Liverpool out of a little bit of a rut?’, and I thought don’t be getting carried away.
“Okay, they beat Aston Villa but for 45 minutes Liverpool weren’t great and then they beat (Real) Madrid. So it’s only 45 minutes in a league game where they’ve played relatively okay. I think they’re out of the title (race).”
