Liverpool Have Worrying Trend To Break After £82m Hugo Ekitike Transfer

Liverpool would be anxious for Hugo Ekitike to defy a dangerous trend if his anticipated move to Anfield goes through. The Reds have agreed to an £82 million agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt after hijacking Newcastle’s pursuit of the forward, which was revealed earlier this month. Ekitike will allegedly sign a six-year contract at Anfield, keeping him there until the summer of 2031.

The young Frenchman had a fruitful season in Germany, scoring 22 goals across all competitions last year. He will be charged with leading the line for Liverpool next season as they look to win back-to-back Premier League titles. It will be crucial for Ekitike to strike the ground running and show that he can do the job in England’s top flight. Reported Express News.

He is the latest in a long line of strikers sold by Frankfurt for large sums of money. In recent years, they have generated big gains on players such as Randal Kolo Muani, Omar Marmoush, Luka Jovic, and Sebastian Haller.

However, few of those players have been successful after leaving the Waldstadion. Kolo Muani joined PSG but has struggled to establish a consistent starting position, spending last season on loan at Juventus.

Haller has also faced difficulties after leaving Frankfurt and signing for West Ham United in 2017. He spent two years at the London Stadium before heading to Ajax, where he recovered his form and secured a transfer to Borussia Dortmund.

The forward was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2022, which hampered his early career at Signal Iduna Park. He has since fully recovered and spent the previous season on loan with Utrecht.
