Liverpool Handed Major Fitness Boost Ahead Of Chelsea Clash With Key Player Available

Liverpool may have an increasing list of injury issues, but Arne Slot’s fears have been alleviated by the news that one of his important players is eligible for duty.

The Reds will head to Chelsea on Saturday evening hoping to prevent a third consecutive defeat after losing to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in recent days.

The Champions League defeat in Turkey was exacerbated by the injuries to goalkeeper Alisson and attacker Hugo Ekitike, as well as the absence of Federico Chiesa owing to a ‘niggle’.

However, there is good news for Slot: Ekitike’s injury isn’t as terrible as feared, and he may now play for Chelsea.

In our Liverpool Confidential section, Daily Mail Sport revealed that Ekitike was sure he had not had any big complications, and the Frenchman is set to travel to London.

The news on Ekitike will be welcomed as Slot revealed he was concerned about the striker following Tuesday night’s game.

‘I wasn’t thinking we had an injury, but Hugo felt something,’ Slot explained.

“He said he couldn’t continue, so we had to take him off.”

Ekitike’s fortunes contrast with Alisson’s, who is expected to be out for six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in Turkey.

The 33-year-old, who has been prone to injury in recent seasons, is expected to miss more than a month and may not return until after the international break, according to scans conducted on Thursday.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, the Georgian goalkeeper bought from Valencia for £29 million this summer, is set to make his Premier League debut.

Alisson will also miss the visit of Manchester United on October 19, as well as the Champions League clash against Real Madrid at Anfield on November 4.
