Liverpool Eye Move For Elite Centre-Back Amid Defensive Issues

Liverpool are reportedly one of several clubs interested in Borussia Dortmund defender, Nico Schlotterbeck.

Bigger clubs appear to be interested in the Germany international, who has excelled while at Dortmund.

Bild claims that Schlotterbeck is high on Liverpool and Bayern Munich’s list. The club may be set to lose Dayot Upamecano on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

Ibrahima Konate, another player who will become a free agent in less than a year, is another defensive problem for Liverpool.

Given his current low deal with Dortmund, Schlotterbeck could be leaving the team soon.

One believes that this may present Liverpool and Bayern with a substantial chance given that they would probably be able to pay the 25-year-old far more than BVB can.

Liverpool Yet To Agree Contract Extension With Konate

However, it’s unclear if the Reds would find it any easier to comply with Schlotterbeck’s demands given how difficult it has been for them to come to an agreement over a new contract with Konate.

Schlotterbeck’s contract with Dortmund is set to expire in 2027, but Transfermarkt presently values him at €40 million.

If a new contract arrangement with his current club has not been reached by the time next summer arrives, then that fee could go down.

In order to replace Konate and possibly provide them with a long-term replacement for the ageing Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool would be well to monitor this situation and see if they can sign a top defender at a low cost.
