still want to sign Alexander Isak, a striker for Newcastle United, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Every week, the Swedish international’s transfer story takes a new turn. Due to his outstanding performances in recent campaigns, the forward has been drawing interest from elite English clubs.
He needed some time to get used to the Premier League after moving from Real Sociedad to St. James’ Park in 2022, but in the 2023–2024 season, he contributed 27 goals across all competitions.
With 27 goals and six assists in 42 games across all competitions last season, the forward once again demonstrated his ability to score goals. Isak even led his squad to the Carabao Cup victory and Champions League qualification.
Liverpool made contact with Newcastle to enquire about the details of signing him earlier in the summer, but the Magpies made it clear that the player is not for sale. Following that, the Reds have purchased Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt by spending around £80m.
Isak to Liverpool
So, it was thought that the Isak transfer story was done, and he was set to stay at St James’ Park. However, a new twist has emerged after news broke on Thursday that Isak has informed Newcastle he is keen on leaving the club this summer.
He was initially absent from the Tyneside club’s first pre-season game against Celtic, and they have now travelled to Asia without him.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is still interested in buying Isak should Newcastle eventually permit his exit, even if they have already paid almost £250 million for Ekitike.
However, before pursuing the Swede, the Reds will need to trade Luis Diaz in order to balance their books. The Colombian has been the subject of negotiations to be purchased by Bayern Munich. However, Isak has no plans to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
Ben Jacobs has backed up this report, stating that Liverpool has now been in touch with Isak’s team to talk about a possible transfer to Anfield. In order to get the striker, the Reds have also made it apparent to Newcastle that they are willing to break the British transfer record.
