Liverpool Competes With Arsenal To Sign Newcastle’s Gordon

According to Football Insider, Liverpool is competing with Arsenal for the signing of Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. Despite being unbeaten in their last ten Premier League matches, the Reds have only won four of them. Arne Slot’s side has drawn the last four consecutive league matches, with a disappointing draw against Burnley at Anfield adding to the pressure on the Dutch manager.

Currently, the Merseyside club is fourth in the league with 36 points after 22 games, 14 points behind table topper Arsenal. So Liverpool will very certainly be unable to defend their Premier League championship again.

On the other hand, Slot’s team is currently only one point behind fifth-placed Manchester United, putting them in danger of losing their Champions League ticket.

Meanwhile, with Cody Gakpo struggling to perform at his best this season and Alexander Isak set to miss a few months owing to a major injury, Liverpool appear to be looking into ways to bolster the front line this year.

Battle

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are looking to sign a left-winger and have long been interested in Gordon. As a result, if Newcastle allows him to leave, they could take real steps to retain his services.

Following the Englishman’s lackluster displays this season, the Magpies are willing to let him go if they receive a substantial offer to balance the books, with Eddie Howe eager to improve the left side of the attack.

Liverpool grabbed Isak from Newcastle for a British record cost after a lengthy transfer dispute last summer, and it remains to be seen whether they will raid Howe’s team again this year.

However, according to the source, Arsenal has long admired the Englishman; as a result, Liverpool will face heavy competition to complete the transaction.

Gordon, who is rated by Transfermarkt at roughly £52 million, like to play on the left wing. He has eight goals in all competitions thus far, with six coming from the penalty spot.

Given his recent drop in play, Arsenal or Liverpool may be taking a tremendous risk if they decide to get him this year by paying a large transfer fee.
