Police Confirm The Cause Of Jota Car Crash That Killed Him And Brother

Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota has reportedly died in car crash alongside his brother during the summer holiday.

The Liverpool forward was traveling with his brother, Andre Silva, who also passed away. He joined Anfield after moving from Wolves for £45 million in 2020, and helped Arne Slot’s team win the Premier League title in May.

According to Team Talk, local reports state that the pair were driving in a Lamborghini, when the tire blew out just as they were overtaking another car, causing the car to run off the road and catch fire.

Andre, 26, played football professionally for Penafiel, a second-tier team in Portugal.

According to the Guardia Civil, Jota and his brother passed away on Thursday at around 00:30 local time, as reported by BBC Sport.

The A-52, a well-traveled highway for drivers heading to Spain from northern Portugal, was the site of the collision in the province of Zamora.

Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region confirmed the crash, announcing in a statement: “The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire.

“1-1-2 notified the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) of this accident.

“From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene.”

Jota recently got married to his sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, who he left behind along with three children.
