Lionel Messi Yet To Decide On 2026 World Cup Participation

Lionel Messi has reportedly not decided whether he will play for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The Inter Miami star fulfilled his lifelong dream by winning the 2022 tournament in Qatar, scoring seven goals to guide Argentina to glory.

Despite recently signing a contract extension with Inter Miami until 2028, Messi remains uncertain about featuring at next year’s competition.

Messi is said to be considering several factors, including his physical condition, fitness, and motivation for another demanding campaign.

The Argentine captain will also assess how his body responds to the 2025–26 season before committing to Lionel Scaloni’s squad.

Messi still vital for Argentina’s hopes

Even at 38, Messi remains crucial to Argentina’s ambitions of retaining their World Cup crown, reports Sports Mole.

He has been in excellent form for Inter Miami, scoring 39 goals and providing 19 assists in 44 appearances this season.

However, injuries have limited his international outings recently, sparking concerns about his readiness for a 48-team World Cup.

Regardless, Messi’s leadership and unmatched influence mean Argentina’s chances of success would drop significantly without their talismanic captain.
