“A very beautiful career is coming to an end, a very full life,” Reina said in an interview with Movistar, a Spanish newspaper.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to have had these experiences. Although I didn’t anticipate it, I believe the moment has arrived, and I want to end this now.”
A native of Madrid, Reina is a product of Barcelona’s legendary La Masia academy and made his senior debut for the club in December of 2000.
Prior to joining Liverpool in 2005, Reina signed with Villarreal in 2002 and played 109 games for the team over three seasons.
He would go on to win an FA Cup in 2006 and a League Cup in 2012 during his eight seasons at Anfield, winning the Premier League Golden Glove three times and winning Liverpool’s Player of the Season in 2010.
After losing his No. 1 shirt to Simon Mignolet, Reina spent 2013–2014 on loan with Napoli, where he won a Coppa Italia, before joining Bayern Munich that summer, reports TSN.
Reina made his senior debut for Spain on the international scene in 2005 and would go on to play 36 games.
