Carlo Ancelotti debut as Brazil’s coach in Thursday’s South American World Cup qualifiers was dismal, with the team drawing 0-0 against runners-up Ecuador, placing the Italian manager under significant strain.
Brazil struggled to break down Ecuador’s defense and had limited chances in the first half, with Vinícius Júnior and Gerson assisting, but the goal was stopped by goalkeeper Gonzalo Valle.
AnceIottti made numerous lineup changes compared to his predecessor, Dorival Júnior, who was fired following the team’s 4-0 defeat in Argentina.

The 65-year-old Italian coach made Vinicius Brazil’s No. 10, reinstated veteran midfielders Casemiro and Richarlison, gave defender Alex his debut, and placed youth Estêvão on the left wing to replace suspended Raphinha. Reported By ESPN.
Brazil appeared more defensive from the start against Ecuador, which has gone unbeaten in its last 14 home games.
Ecuador threatened in the second half when John Yeboah attempted a through ball, but goalscorer Nilson Angulo was called offside.
Ancelotti’s team created more chances but failed to take advantage, with Richarlison wasting a well-placed pass from Vinicius Jr in the area and Valle saving Casemiro’s strong long-range drive.
Ecuador moves closer to qualifying as they remain in second place with 24 points. The top six advance directly to next year’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. On Tuesday, they will face Peru, who are in ninth place.
Vinicius said Ancelotti “is yet to show his game plan” for Brazil.
“We will manage. The World Cup is right there and we need to be together to do well at the end of South American qualifying and World Cup preparations,” the Real Madrid striker said.
