Adam Lallana, 37 player has announced his retirement from sport in an emotional message in which he pays thanks to Liverpool and his other former clubs. During his five-year spell with Liverpool, the midfielder won both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers signed Lallana from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £25 million. But it wasn’t until Jurgen Klopp took over as manager the following year that he truly excelled at Anfield.
The 37-year-old was a major member of the German’s early Liverpool team, with his greatest season at Anfield coming in 2016/17, when he scored eight goals in 31 Premier League appearances to help the Reds qualify for the Champions League for only the second time since 2009.

Injuries restricted his effectiveness in his final three seasons at the club, but he was part of the Liverpool team that won the Champions League, European Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in 2019.
He also won the Premier League in 2020, his final season on Merseyside, after signing a short-term contract extension to finish the title-winning season with the Reds amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.
Taking to social media to announce his retirement, Lallana paid tribute to his family and former clubs, team-mates and managers.
“As I call time on my playing career, I do so with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride,” he wrote on Instagram message. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunities and assistance I have gotten along the road.
“You owe so much to so many people on a journey like this—it’s difficult to mention everyone, but please know how grateful I am to all of them. I could not have done it without you.
