Jurgen Klopp has opened up about the moment he turned down the chance to leave Liverpool and take charge of the German national team in 2023.
The Reds had just finished a disappointing 2022/23 season, missing out on Champions League qualification and slipping to fifth in the Premier League.
Klopp admitted the campaign left him exhausted and considering a change, but he felt he couldn’t walk away after such a low point.

Speaking earlier this year, the former Liverpool boss said it was his responsibility to put things right before moving on to anything new.
He revealed Germany approached him in the summer of 2023, but he rejected it out of loyalty to the club and players he had built strong relationships with.
Klopp Opens Up On Emotional Liverpool Exit
Klopp said new arrivals like Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister gave him renewed motivation to rebuild.
He eventually delivered a stronger final season before announcing in January 2024 that he would leave at the end of the campaign, citing fatigue after more than two decades in management.
Klopp explained that he informed the club internally long before going public, insisting the decision “felt right” just as it had during his departures from Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.
The 58-year-old says he now enjoys a more balanced life as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, ending a coaching career that included over 1,000 matches, reports Mirror.
Despite rumours linking him with a return, Klopp believes any future role at Liverpool would not be as manager, even as current boss Arne Slot faces growing pressure.
