Barcelona’s summer signings Joan Garcia spoke openly with Mundo Deportivo about joining the club, the registration process, and how Espanyol fans reacted.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper completed his transfer from Espanyol, but his registration with La Liga has been delayed owing to financial constraints.
When asked what he thinks of Barcelona now that he is a member of the club, Garcia responded, “It’s a great club with the qualities that great clubs have.” The truth is, I’m really comfortable and pleased.”
Despite the ambiguity surrounding his registration, Garcia said he remained cool. “I have not suffered. In the end, when I signed, I knew exactly what was coming.
“I was and am prepared to face it, and I remain calm. I’ve been calm all this time, and I still am. That’s what they tell me: calm, that everything will be alright, and I have faith in them.”
Dealing with rivalry and reactions from Espanyol fans
Garcia, who is from Espanyol, agreed that the transfer had extra weight. “I never had any worries about my future or athletic abilities.
“Obviously, coming from Espanyol, there are a few more doubts, but I didn’t have any on the sporting side,” he claimed.
Addressing Espanyol supporters, he said, “I understand them, I share some of their agony and disappointment.

“I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about them or had some bad days because of them. But, in the end, I had to make a decision for myself, my family, and my future.
Garcia also said that Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, was instrumental in convincing him: “Above all, the project, the team, so young, with so much quality.
Focus on the future with Barcelona.
Garcia anticipates a hard reception upon his return to Cornelle-el Prat: “Yes, I suppose so. You must understand all viewpoints and thoughts, and I am willing to do so.
“I’ll go there to play my game, try to do my best, and that’s it.”
He also revealed what Hansi Flick expects from him: “First and foremost, I hope to continue like last season, when he told me I was really excellent and played some wonderful matches. Also, I wish to help in any way I can.”
