Manchester United were able to move several undesired players on the final day of the summer transfer season.
Antony claims he turned down the opportunity to sign with Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window before returning to Real Betis on deadline day. The 25-year-old was put available for transfer at the start of the summer and did not have to report for pre-season training, but he did not leave Manchester United until the last few hours of the window.
Antony received multiple requests to leave the club, but he made it plain that he preferred to return to Real Betis following his successful loan spell with the club last season. The attacker revitalized his career after moving to the La Liga club earlier this year, when he scored nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances as they became runners-up in the Conference League.

On deadline day, the Brazilian agreed to return to Betis for an original cost of £19 million, plus £2.59 million in add-ons. The agreement also includes a 50% sell-on provision, and United did not pay out the remainder of his contract. It means the exit still represented a PSR loss, given they paid £81.3 million to sign him from Ajax three years ago, but it was a solution that worked for all parties.
Antony could have earned more money if he had joined Bayern in the summer, where he was reputedly offered double the salary he will make at Betis, but he had already agreed to a trade with the Spanish club.
I feel confident in making this decision because I am quite happy here. “More than five teams called me,” he told El Partidazo de Copa.
