Prospective Barcelona executives and Manchester City discussed Erling Haaland on Wednesday.
Victor Font, who wants to be the future president of Barcelona, plans to make City attacker Haaland his primary goal if he defeats the current Joan Laporta in Sunday’s election.
Haaland, 25, inked a new deal with City that will keep him at the Etihad until 2034 last year. However, the Norwegian’s future is still up in the air, especially because it’s unclear if Pep Guardiola will lead City in the upcoming campaign.
Robert Lewandowski is expected to depart the La Liga champions when his contract expires in June, therefore Barcelona are searching for a striker this summer.

Haaland has long been considered Laporta’s ideal acquisition, but Font, a possible successor, wants to outperform his opponent.
Barcelona Staff Had Meeting With Man City Officials
Two members of Font’s staff, Carles Planchart and Xavier Aguilar, reportedly met with Ferran Soriano and Hugo Viana of City in Madrid, where City subsequently lost the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 match against Real Madrid 3-0, according to Catalan publication Sport.
A condition that would grant Barcelona a preferential buy option on Haaland was considered by the two parties.
Due to Barca’s ongoing financial constraints and current £1.25 billion reconstruction of the Nou Camp, any deal this summer would be challenging.
But a board member of Laporta recently asserted that Barcelona are “ready” to sign players like Haaland and Julian Alvarez, the forward from Atletico Madrid.
Speaking to radio station Cadena SER, Joan Soler declared: “Yes, we could sign players like Julian Alvarez or Erling Haaland. These transfers will pay for themselves within five years, and Barcelona’s finances are ready for it.”
