Guehi Withdraws From England Squad, Set To Be Replaced By Chelsea Star

Crystal Palace defender, Marc Guehi has reportedly withdrawn from England squad ahead of their FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Serbia.

Guehi, 25, picked up an injury in Palace’s clash with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

Guehi is now out of his nation’s team for their World Cup qualifiers after Oliver Glasner ruled him out of Palace’s derby against Brighton on Sunday, acknowledging that “he can’t even walk.”

Chalobah Expected To Replace Guehi

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah, who was formerly under Thomas Tuchel’s tutelage at Stamford Bridge, is expected to replace Guehi in the England team.

The 26-year-old made his debut in England’s friendly 3-1 loss to Senegal at the City Ground after receiving his first international call-up in May.

However, he was later left out of Tuchel’s team for the qualifiers in September, and the German acknowledged that it was “unfortunate” that he wasn’t selected.

More late additions to the German’s team for Thursday’s match against the Serbians are anticipated after Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe said that Anthony Gordon and Nick Pope would also have to withdraw.

While Gordon was out for the Magpies’ trip to Brentford due to a hip problem, Pope was substituted during the encounter in west London due to a concussion.

Speaking after his side’s 3-1 defeat, Howe said: “Nick Pope suffered a concussion and that’s why we took him off. As soon as were made aware of that, he was withdrawn.

“He won’t go with England, it’s 12 days recovery, I think. Anthony Gordon has a minor injury, so he’ll miss England.”
