Guardiola Believes Haland Has The Potential To Break Champions League All-Time Scoring Record

Pep Guardiola supported Erling Haaland to break the Champions League’s all-time scoring record as he became the fastest player to 50 goals.

The Norwegian striker scored the first goal in City’s 2-0 victory over 10-man Napoli on Thursday, breaking Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s previous record of 62 games.

At only 25 years old, Guardiola sees no reason why Haaland, who has already scored 12 goals for club and country this season, should not go on to break Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 141.

The City Manager stated: “In that rhythm, yes (he could break the record).” If he isn’t injured, he could play for another 10-12 years, and he will undoubtedly continue to grow.

“What can I say?” The numbers speak for themselves. We’re lucky to have him. Van Nistelrooy, Lewandowski, the two monsters Cristiano and Messi, Erling’s presence is unbelievable.” Reported By RTE News.

City were able to take complete control of their league phase opener at the Etihad Stadium after Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo was sent off after taking down Haaland on 21 minutes.

The Italians replied by sacrificing former City star Kevin De Bruyne on his return to the Etihad, but the hosts ultimately burst through their defensive line.

Haaland opened the score after 56 minutes with a deft header after Phil Foden’s beautiful flick, and Jeremy Doku added a fine solo goal nine minutes later.

Guardiola said: “When it was 11 vs. 10, we had a really excellent performance against a club that has the DNA of Italian teams – they defend really well, block crosses, are combative, and have a great mindset.

“I was very pleased because after 10 against 11, you may expect to be more agitated and in a rush, but it was the polar opposite.
