Jamaica is once again searching their English diaspora for talent after a lackluster Gold Cup performance this summer in order to secure only their second appearances at a men’s World Cup.
The final group phases of Concacaf World Cup qualifying are scheduled to begin in September.
Mason Greenwood, a controversial forward, who played for England once in 2020 before his career was cut short after an off-field incident with a girlfriend that resulted in charges of rape and abuse, appears set to be the newest addition to English coach Steve McLaren’s roster.
According to Inside World Football, Greenwood, who has been granted a Jamaican passport and is currently successfully reviving his playing career in France’s Ligue 1 with Marseille, now need a release from the English Football Association (FA) in order to join the Jamaican national team.

Tyrese Hall of Tottenham, who is on loan at Notts County, and Brentford defender, Rico Henry are also believed to be courted by McLaren. Both would be considered as ancestry players for Jamaica.
12 teams remain in the Concacaf 2026 qualifying round after being divided into three groups. The 2026 World Cup will be immediately available to the group winners.
In March 2026, the best two finishers in second place will compete in an Intercontinental Play-Off.
Bermuda, Trinidad & Tobago, and Curacao have been drawn to Jamaica’s group. The international windows for home and away games are scheduled for September, October, and November.
