Gasperini, Lookman Embrace Following Goal In 4-0 Win Over Juventus

Gian Piero Gasperini ensured that the rumors of a falling out between himself and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman were put to rest with a gesture and brief message for the Nigerian international following his goal and subsequent substitution during Sunday’s 4-0 victory against Juventus.

La Dea scored four goals against Thiago Motta’s team on Sunday night, causing the Bianconeri to suffer their worst home loss since 1967. The goals came from Lookman, Davide Zappacosta, Marten De Roon, and Mateo Retegui.

After missing a penalty during Atalanta’s Champions League exit last month, Lookman got into an open row with coach Gasperini. Since then, he has been in good form, scoring three goals in his last three Serie A games.

With five goals and two assists from seven Champions League games and 13 goals and five assists from 22 Serie A games, the defending African Player of the Year has now contributed 25 goals from 31 games across all competitions this season.

He scored in the 77th minute of Sunday night’s match against Juventus before being replaced in the 80th, with the Bergamo-based club leading 0–4.

According to Football Italia, Gasperini told Lookman: “Can I give you a hug, can you give me a nice smile?,” which led to a big hug between the pair on the touchline.
