Gary Neville has questioned the reason Chelsea contemplated canceling Nicolas Jackson’s loan transfer to Bayern Munich in the wake of Liam Delap’s injury.
After months of speculation about Jackson’s future, the striker’s move to Bayern was completed on deadline day.
Throughout the summer, Jackson was linked with a number of teams, including Manchester United and Newcastle, and Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca made a number of U-turns about the forward.
When he and his agent flew to Munich over the weekend to finalize a loan agreement with the German champions, the 24-year-old’s story appeared to be coming to a conclusion.

But Jackson was suddenly told to return to Chelsea when Delap suffered an injury during Saturday’s triumph over Fulham.
He was eventually permitted to make his move in spite of the initial setback.
According to The Mirror, on his self-titled podcast on Sunday night, Neville expressed his surprise at Chelsea’s treatment of the Senegalese forward prior to the deal being finalized.
He questioned: “The idea of sending him to Bayern Munich on loan, and if [Delap] is out from four to six weeks, which a normal hamstring [injury] would be, if he’s out for four to six weeks, why would you stop a loan?
“I can see why Nicolas Jackson is hurting, bitter,” he added. “But I can also see why Chelsea as a football club have to protect themselves.
“But you’ve sent the kid over there on a plane, you’ve accepted the deal, you’ve said go and do it, and then this happens. Not sure how you get around it. It’s an unfortunate situation where I can see both sides.”
