Galatasaray have ruthlessly insulted Liverpool following their shock 1-0 Champions League victory. Arne Slot’s side suffered back-to-back defeats following Victor Osimhen’s penalty.
The Nigerian’s penalty kick inside 20 minutes was enough for the Turkish giants, as the Reds failed to capitalize on their chances and turn possession into points. Dominik Szoboszlai was controversially penalized in the box when his trailing arm struck Baris Yilmaz in the face after the 25-year-old cutback onto his right foot.
The Video Assistant Referee did not intervene, and the goal came only 23 seconds after Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo were unable to capitalize when the Frenchman was set up one-on-one with the Galatasaray goalkeeper.
Liverpool failed to take their chances and had a penalty of their own, but French referee Clement Turpin overturned his judgment after VAR intervention.
Galatasaray’s victory marked their first Champions League home win in seven years, following a 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, Liverpool’s next opponents in the competition.
And, to commemorate their epic accomplishment, which included a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid during the 2012/13 season, their English X account put salt in the wounds of the Reds and their followers.
“You’ll never walk alone, but sometimes you walk out without points,” the tweet stated, accompanied by a photo of Milos Kerkez on his haunches.
