Galatasaray Advised To Be A ‘Little Modest’ Ahead Liverpool Clash

Liverpool will play Galatasaray for the third time this season in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 match at Anfield.

There has been a lot of scrutiny in the Liverpool camp, as their 1-1 Premier League stalemate with Tottenham Hotspur at home over the weekend sparked a lot of speculations over Arne Slot’s future.

Following crowd issues in their knockout phase play-off victory against Juventus, the Turkish giants take a slim 1-0 advantage to Merseyside, where there will be no away supporters due to a UEFA sanction.

Galatasaray continued an amazing run of victories against English clubs with an impressive first leg victory thanks to an early goal from Mario Lemina in Istanbul.

Former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez is suspended after receiving a yellow card during the first game, which could be devastating for the visitors. Enes Buyuk, the backup goalkeeper, is also out due to a shoulder injury.

Victor Osimhen, Noa Lang, Roland Sallai, Ismail Jakobs, Abdulkerim Bardakcı, Ugurcan Çakır, and manager Okan Buruk are all one yellow away from suspension, putting several Galatasaray players in danger of suffering the same fate as Sanchez.

Altintop Claims Galatasaray ‘Are In For A Busy Night’

Ex-Galatasaray midfielder Hamit Altintop says if his former club are to win at Anfield, their backline are in for a busy night.

Speaking to DAZN as reported by Liverpool Echo, he said: “In the Liverpool match, Ugurcan Çakır [goalkeeper] will definitely be the key player for Galatasaray. I think he will have a lot of work to do. The team needs to defend very well together.”

But while recognising Liverpool’s status as favourites, Altintop also knows of the Reds’ defensive vulnerabilities.

He said: “If Galatasaray don’t score, they won’t have a chance anyway. They must be effective in attack and take advantage of opportunities.

“It will be a very difficult task to beat Liverpool there. That’s why we should be a little modest as Galatasaray.”
