Thus, my initial reaction was, “Why? You can’t stop wondering why, and why. I had a difficult season the previous year, and just as I was starting to play, score goals, and play well, this [the knee injury] occurred.
“So, why was the first question? For the first two or three weeks, I questioned why it was happening to me every single day. Then, once I realized that reading the Bible would help me get closer to God and Jesus.
“I have won incredible trophies and experienced incredible moments throughout my career. I’ve held incredible roles with the teams in the past, including Arsenal.
“Unfortunately, we haven’t won anything yet, but it makes me happy to come to Arsenal and then, like everyone else, help make Arsenal fight for the titles once more.”
“I’m a different person when I’m smiling and completely certain, and obviously now that I’m more experienced, I’ve had 11 months of doubting, so taking a step back and observing everything around me has really helped me.”
