Lo and behold! The 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek one has come and gone.
It still feels like yesterday when the league went live sometimes in July as managers were scrambling to put up various kinds of drafts. Now we are back to the mode of letting the most played fantasy game in the world decide how our whole week is going to be.
Erm! It’s not that we are trying to poke nose, but did you nick it well this GW or we should mind our business? Ok, enough of the talks, and let’s get down to how the first gameweek of the season went down.
Premier League defending champions, Liverpool opened the floor against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday.

The Reds defeated the Cherries 4-2 in a very entertaining encounter with new signing Hugo Ekitike (£8.6m) opening both his goalscoring and assist accounts to claim 11 points, Cody Gakpo (£7.5m), Federico Chiesa (£6.5m) and Mohamed Salah (£14.5m) also got on the scoresheet for Arne Slot’s side.
Antoine Semenyo (£7.1m) scored a brace for the visitors to collect 15 points.
It was a historic match for Salah as he became the first player to score 10 goals on Premier League opening days.
The most popular captain pick, Cole Palmer (£10.5m) registered a blank as Chelsea failed to breach a stubborn Crystal Palace defence.
The Blues talisman hasn’t scored a goal from the open play since January making it 17 matches since he netted from such situation.
Erling Haaland (£14.0m), another popular captain pick proved his worth following his brace in Manchester City’s 4-0 win against Wolves.
The Norwegian has now scored in all the matches he has played on opening days since he came to England netting seven goals in the process.
Chris Wood (£7.1m) started the season with a bang as he also plundered a brace to collect 13 points in Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 victory over Brentford.
Tottenham Hotspur star, Richarlison (£6.5m) completed the trio of forwards, who scored two goals on the opening GW of the campaign.
Sunderland defender, Daniel Ballard (£4.5m) stunned FPL managers with his 17 points in the Black Cats’ 3-0 victory over West Ham United.
The points were enough for the 25-year-old to become the player of the week and also the highest scoring defender ever from a GW1 fixture as Sunderland relish their first Premier League match in eight years.
