Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is apparently in talks with an Italian club about a possible transfer.
Lyon canceled the 37-year-old’s contract on the eve of the Ligue 1 season last week, only 18 months after joining the club.
Les Gones announced the news in a statement, writing: “Nemanja Matic and OL end their collaboration.” Thank you for all the wonderful memories, Nemanja. Best good success in the future.’
Matic is so eligible to join as a free agent this summer, and, according to Sky Sports in Italy, he has been in talks with freshly promoted Sassuolo about a move to Serie A.
The Serbian’s representative is said to have held constructive talks with the club’s coach Fabio Grosso and CEO Guovanni Carnevali this week.

If completed, the deal will see Matic return to the Italian top flight just a couple of years after he spent a season at Roma, where he made 50 appearances under Jose Mourinho.
Matic joined Lyon from Rennes in January of last year, where he made 55 appearances.
Lyon has not given a reason for the dissolution of their relationship.
Lyon were relegated to Ligue 2 in June due to financial difficulties, having reported debts of £422 million in October 2017.
Les Gones, on the other hand, successfully fought their demotion, and will henceforth play in the top flight for the 37th straight season.
That decision also resulted in Crystal Palace losing their place in the Europa League, as both clubs shared John Textor as an owner.
Matic also made headlines for a high-profile argument with United goalkeeper Andre Onana, branding him ‘one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history’.
