Former Liverpool Star Now Playing For Ferencvaros B-team

Robbie Keane has given former Liverpool player Naby Keita his most recent career boost by allowing the midfielder to play for his Ferencvaros B squad.

After his Anfield contract expired in the summer of 2023, Keita moved from Liverpool to Werder Bremen. Things didn’t work out in an attempt to resurrect his career in Germany where he excelled with RB Leipzig before moving to Liverpool.

The Guinea international’s Werder debut season was marred by injuries that limited him to just five Bundesliga games, and things would only get worse from there.

He never played again for the team after refusing to board the squad bus for an away game in 2024, he was banished from the first team and given a hefty fine.

According to The Mirror, 30-year-old Keita went on loan to Keane’s Ferencvaros in January. However, he hasn’t been thrown back into senior duty right away after missing about 11 months of club action.

In a 45-minute friendly match against Tiszafured, Keita made an impression by demonstrating “good movements, accurate passes, and ball possession,” according to club media.

The lower-league club, who were defeated by Ferencvaros’ first team in this season’s domestic cup lost 4-1.

With teams permitted to make a few mid-season adjustments, Keane has included Keita in his roster for the Europa League knockout stage.

The first leg of the Hungarians’ play-off round matchup against Viktoria Plzen is set for Thursday.
