Granit Xhaka former Arsenal midfielder, feels he still has the quality to perform in the Premier League at the age of 32, and has promised to build a “new history” after joining Sunderland.
Sunderland have signed Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen for £13 million, with a further £4 million in add-ons.
The Swiss international has signed a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light, returning to England after leaving Arsenal in 2023.
Xhaka had two brilliant seasons in Germany, helping Bayer Leverkusen go undefeated and win the Bundesliga for the first time in club history.

He was placed 16th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or voting and claims he is still confident in his potential to perform in the top division. Reported By Standard News.
“I’m very proud to be here,” Xhaka declared. “When I spoke with the club, I was excited and felt the spirit and mentality that all of the people and players possessed.
“It’s just what I wanted, and I have a great sensation. We’ve returned to where this Club needs to be, and we want to stay to write our own history.
“I believe I am prepared to contribute to the team not only with my expertise but also with quality. We need to find ourselves on the pitch, but I don’t believe this will be a major issue. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally here and looking forward to it.”
Sunderland regard Xhaka’s acquisition as a huge coup, with sporting director Kristjaan Speakman complimenting his credentials.
