A shocking incident in Merseyside amateur football saw NHS worker and Ormskirk West End player Richard Agbasoga suffer a fractured skull after being attacked by a group of spectators during a match.
The 27-year-old, an international nursing student from Ghana, was playing in a Liverpool County Premier League fixture against Calci Football Club at Wavertree Sports Park.
When around 12 spectators reportedly invaded the pitch and assaulted him “like a pack of wolves.”

Agbasoga is now undergoing medical tests to assess potential damage to his hearing and sight, after scans revealed a fracture near his left ear.
According to witnesses, the violence erupted after an on-field clash in which one of Agbasoga’s teammates was headbutted following a rough tackle.
As the Ormskirk player went to intervene, a group of spectators stormed the field and attacked him.
Ormskirk manager Chris Bull described the incident as “sickening” and said it should have been dealt with as “two red cards and small fines,” not a mass assault.
“It was like someone had switched them on,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “They ran on like a pack of wolves. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The referee abandoned the match, with Ormskirk West End leading 2–0. The Liverpool County FA has launched an investigation, and Calci FC’s fixtures have been suspended pending the outcome.
While police have not yet received a formal complaint, local reports confirm that inquiries are underway, reports Daily Star.
Bull stressed that such violence is “extremely rare” in Merseyside’s amateur football, where “thousands of matches are played every weekend without incident.”
