Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes was left asking a Spanish reporter if they were aware of the rules as the Red Devils captain argued over the penalty and red card call that decided the match.

Locals were furious when Athletic Club were down to ten men during their Europa League semi-final.

The Spanish media later questioned Fernandes about whether he thought the red card was warranted.

According to The Mirror, a heated exchange ensued, during which the Portuguese playmaker asked them whether they were aware of the rules and clarified that the referee had an easy decision because of the grab on Hojlund.

Fernandes began by asking the reporter if they thought it was a penalty, to which they replied: “I think it could’ve been a penalty, but no it wasn’t a red card.”

The United skipper then responded: “Why wasn’t it a red card? Do you know the rules? If he tries to tackle with his feet, it’s a yellow card. If he pushes him or does it with his hand, it has to be a red card.”

Fernandes refused to be drawn into a conversation that Alejandro Garnacho had handled the ball In the build-up. However, he also asserted that the Argentine should have been given a penalty later in the match.

Man United will turn their attention towards the Premier League as they are set to travel to the G-Tech Community stadium for a crunch clash against Brentford.
