The FA are reportedly investigating remarks made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, who said that immigrants had “colonised” the United Kingdom.
According to the Evening Standard, although Ratcliffe has expressed regret for his “choice of language,” the FA are said to be investigating if he has damaged the reputation of the sport.
In an interview with Sky News this week, Ratcliffe said: “The UK is being colonised. It’s costing too much money. The UK has been colonised by immigrants.”
Ratcliffe’s remarks are under FA jurisdiction because he is a director at United, and they are being investigated.
Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest men, had said: “You can’t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in.”

Both the political and sporting communities criticized those comments, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer describing them as “offensive and wrong.”
Since changing his principal residence in 2020, Ratcliffe has mostly resided in Monaco, a tax haven. He bought a 27.7 percent stake in United in February 2024.
Ratcliffe Apologises
In a statement on Thursday, Ratcliffe said: “I am sorry that my choice of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe, but it is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth.
