Ex Man United Player Set To Become Manager After Solskjaer Rejection

Man United are set to appoint Michael Carrick as their interim manager until the end of the season following decisive intervention from senior players.

The club had explored the possibility of bringing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back to Old Trafford after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier this month.

However, Solskjaer’s return was ultimately rejected after key figures in the dressing room voiced concerns over his suitability.

Sources indicate several senior players made their views clear to club executives, urging United to turn instead to Carrick, reports Daily Star.

Solskjaer, who managed United between 2018 and 2021, had reportedly been interviewed twice before being ruled out of contention.

Manchester United’s hierarchy are now preparing to confirm Carrick’s appointment within the next 24 hours.

The former midfielder will take charge until the end of the campaign, marking his second spell as United’s interim boss.

Carrick to take charge ahead of Manchester derby showdown

Carrick is expected to oversee his first training session on Wednesday as preparations begin for Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

The appointment process has been led by chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.

United’s recent form has heightened urgency, with just one win from their last seven matches across all competitions.

Carrick previously stepped in following Solskjaer’s departure in 2021, guiding the team to two wins and a draw.

He later managed Middlesbrough, leading them to the Championship play-offs in 2022–23 before his dismissal last summer.

As a player, Carrick made 464 appearances for United and won 18 major trophies, including the Champions League.

The 44-year-old now faces a major challenge as United attempt to salvage a turbulent season under temporary leadership.
