Hakim Ziyech has completed a surprise return to Moroccan football, signing for Wydad Casablanca on a free transfer until 2027.
The 32-year-old turned down interest from La Liga side Sevilla to join the Botola Pro giants in what’s being hailed as a patriotic move, reports Goal.
Ziyech, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, now returns to his homeland for the first time in his club career.
Wydad’s president, Hicham Ait Mena, said the deal was “driven by national pride,” confirming Ziyech will be unveiled next week in Casablanca.
Ziyech Homecoming And Renewed Ambition
The Moroccan playmaker left Al-Duhail earlier this year and was determined to find a project that reignites his passion for football.

He hopes the move will restore his rhythm and improve his chances of returning to the national team ahead of AFCON 2025.
Ziyech’s struggles in recent years were largely due to injuries and inconsistent game time during spells at Chelsea and Galatasaray.
Now, the 2022 World Cup semi-finalist is focused on rediscovering the creative flair that once made him one of Africa’s top talents.
A Symbolic Chapter In Moroccan Football
Wydad fans are preparing a hero’s welcome, with thousands expected to attend his unveiling at the Mohammed V Stadium.
National coach Walid Regragui has hinted that Ziyech’s return to form could earn him an international recall in the coming months.
For Ziyech, this is more than a transfer — it’s a return to his roots, his people, and a chance to rebuild his legacy.
