The change follows Norwegian tradition, where both parents’ surnames are often used.
Haaland has previously gone by ‘Erling Braut Haaland’ on social media but typically wore just ‘Haaland’ at Manchester City, Salzburg, and Borussia Dortmund.
Honouring Family And Tradition
The 25-year-old’s decision also pays tribute to his mother, Gry Marita Braut, a former heptathlete, whose surname will now appear on his shirt.
Norway manager Stale Solbakken commented on the change: “That’s his name [Braut], it’s no longer that difficult. I knew nothing of it until now.”
The new kit will debut during Norway’s friendly against Finland on September 4, reports Talk Sport.
Erling boasts a remarkable international record, scoring 42 goals in 43 appearances.
He has netted 19 in the Nations League, nine in World Cup qualifiers, eight in friendlies, and six in Euro qualifiers, making him Norway’s all-time top scorer.
At just 25, Haaland is nine goals ahead of former record-holder Jorgen Juve, with his next milestone set at 50 international goals.
Looking ahead, Haaland’s updated jersey symbolizes not only family pride but also his ongoing ambition to break records and leave a lasting legacy for Norway on the international stage.
