Enzo Maresca Celebrates ‘Special Night’ As Chelsea Set Champions League Record

Enzo Maresca described Chelsea’s 5–1 Champions League win over Ajax as a “special night” after his youthful side set a new European record at Stamford Bridge.

Ajax were reduced to 10 men early on after Kenneth Taylor’s red card, and Chelsea took full advantage with a dominant display.

Three teenagers — Marc Guiu, Estevao, and Tyrique George — all get on the scoresheet, reports Standard.

It was a historic evening for the Blues, who became the first team ever to have three different teenagers score in a single Champions League match.

Maresca made 10 changes from the side that beat Nottingham Forest, giving several academy players a chance to shine.

“Very proud — it’s a special night for the club and the young players,” Maresca said after the game.

“They all showed great maturity and quality. It’s an important step in their development.”

Estevao leads Chelsea’s new generation

Summer signing Estevao stole the headlines, converting a first-half penalty to become Chelsea’s youngest-ever Champions League scorer.

The 18-year-old could have added another after the break but impressed his manager with his humility.

“Estevao is very humble and hardworking,” Maresca added. “He’s special, but still simple and focused — a manager’s dream.”

Seventeen-year-old Reggie Walsh also made his Champions League debut, as Chelsea — back in Europe’s top competition for the first time since 2023 — underlined their faith in youth and their growing confidence under Maresca.
