Following a fractured jaw sustained during Sunday’s Serie A encounter between AC Milan and Parma, England player Ruben Loftus-Cheek is scheduled for surgery.
Around the ten-minute mark, the midfielder collided with Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi while trying to meet a cross and was taken off the San Siro field. In the end, Milan lost the game 1-0.
Italian media reported the severity of the injury, with Sky Sports Italia stating: “In addition to broken upper teeth and two cuts, the Englishman suffered a fractured alveolar bone.”
A request for comment was not immediately answered by AC Milan.
Loftus-Cheek’s hopes of playing in this summer’s World Cup now appear to be at risk due to a protracted period of the injury.
Loftus-Cheek is unlikely to play much football before the tournament, which starts in less than four months as he heals from jaw surgery.
Loftus-Cheek Featured For England In 2018 World Cup
The 30-year-old played in the 2018 World Cup under Gareth Southgate, which saw England get to the semi-finals for the first time since 1990 before losing deeply to Croatia in extra time.
After that, he lost favour at the international level, but Thomas Tuchel invited him back into the Three Lions group last year.
Loftus-Cheek gained his 11th England cap in October when he came on as a substitute in a 3-0 victory over Wales, giving him hope that Tuchel will consider him for the World Cup.
