Delap Makes Final Decision On £30M Transfer Amid Man United, Chelsea Interest

Ipswich Town forward, Liam Delap has reportedly rejected Manchester United approach in favour of a move to Chelsea.

Delap is expected to depart Portman Road when the summer transfer market opens next month, because a £30 million release clause will go into effect.

This season, the 22-year-old striker scored 12 goals for Ipswich in the Premier League, and their relegation to the Championship has made a move possible.

David Moyes acknowledged last week that Delap has “spoken to three or four clubs,” including Everton, indicating that he has drawn a lot of attention.

The England under-21 international had previously been certain of joining United, but it appears that recent developments have changed the tide.

After losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final, Ruben Amorim’s team finished a miserable 15th in the Premier League and will not participate in any level of European football next season.

Chelsea, on the other hand, had a spectacular season finale, winning the Conference League by defeating Real Betis in the final on Wednesday and earning a spot in the Champions League by ending in fourth place.

Enzo Maresca and Joe Shields, the recruitment director, have also given them close attachments to Delap.

Shields helped to secure Delap’s transfer from Derby to Manchester City’s academy in 2019, and Maresca served as his coach while he was a member of the academy.

According to TalkSPORT as claimed by The Mirror, as a result of this connection, Delap has approved the deal for the Blues.
